Managed IT

An untested backup
is a hope with a schedule.

Automated backups, one copy nobody can delete, and a recovery plan we’ve actually rehearsed. Whether the files copied was never the real question. Will the business open on Monday?

Sentrello is our only partnership. On the clouds, it's our people who hold the certifications. We don't claim a partner tier, and we'll keep saying so until that changes.

Where this usually starts

You’ve got a backup. Have you got a restore?

Backups tend to fail on the worst possible day, found out by the person least able to fix them, with everybody watching.

  • The job shows green every night, and nobody’s opened a file from it since the day it was set up.
  • Recovery time was agreed as “as fast as possible”, which is a wish rather than a number.
  • The backup drive sat on the same network as the server, so the ransomware encrypted that too.
  • One person knew how to restore it. He left in the spring.
  • The server came back fine. The accounting app on it didn’t, and the app was the whole point.

What we do instead

If it hasn’t been restored, it isn’t a backup yet

So we restore from it, on a schedule, into an isolated environment, and check that the application starts and the data reads. Not the file count. The login screen. One copy is immutable, which means an attacker holding your domain admin account still can’t delete last Tuesday. And the plan is written in the order you’d really work through it at three in the morning, with the credentials somewhere you can reach.

How it works

How recovery gets rehearsed

Nobody remembers the first four steps. Everybody remembers the fifth.

  1. Agree what Monday looks like

Before a byte moves we settle two numbers in plain English: how much work you can afford to lose, and how long you can afford to be down. Those are your RPO and RTO, and they’re different for the finance system than for a shared drive full of old party photos.

  2. Back up automatically, to more than one place

Servers, cloud tenants, laptops, and the SaaS data you assumed the vendor was keeping. A local copy for speed, an off-site copy for the fire. The schedule runs itself and reports to us, not to a mailbox nobody reads.

  3. Lock one copy against everyone

An immutable copy can’t be changed or deleted inside its retention window. Not by us, and not by an admin account stolen this afternoon. Ransomware that reaches for the backups finds one it can’t touch.

  4. Restore for real, on a schedule

We bring a system back in isolation and check it boots, the app opens and the data is what the business expects. Each test is logged with what came back and how long it took. A failed test on a quiet Wednesday is the best news you’ll get all year.

  5. Run the plan when it counts

When something real happens there’s a document, a person and a sequence that’s been walked before. Identity comes back first, then the systems that make money, then the rest. Nobody invents the order under pressure.

What gets protected

Related

  • Server & Infrastructure Management

Physical or virtual, Windows or Linux, in your building or in a cloud account, every server gets upgraded, patched and maintained by us. Patches roll out in rings, so the update that breaks something breaks the test box first.

  • Incident Response & Digital Forensics

Immediate containment, breach investigation and evidence gathering while the attack is still underway. Set it up as a retainer and your first call is a call, not a contract negotiation, and the cleanup won’t destroy the proof you’ll need later.

  • Cloud Migration & Management

AWS, Azure, Google Cloud or DigitalOcean: we move your workloads across, then run them there day to day. Accounts, sizing, tags and access get done properly from the start, so next month’s invoice doesn’t make anyone gasp.

What can’t you afford to lose?

The systems that make the money, where they live, and how long you could limp along without them.
