A driving school where two instructors stopped turning up for the same car
Five instructors shared four cars, booked by text and a wall calendar. A booking app that treats the car as something you have to reserve fixed it.
This shows the kind of work we do. It is not a client engagement, and the business in it is invented.
- 0double-booked cars since launch, down from about two a month
- 1 textto a parent before every lesson, and no-shows fell by about a third
- 4 carsand five instructors on one schedule
Where it started
The problem
Five instructors and four cars. The arithmetic only works if somebody keeps track, and for nine years that somebody was a wall calendar plus the owner's memory.
Students texted instructors directly to book. Twice a month, two instructors arrived for the same car, and road-test dates got missed because nothing tied them to the lesson plan.
What changed
What we did
We built a booking app where a lesson needs both an instructor and a car. You can't book one without the other.
Students book from their phones and only ever see real openings. Parents of under-18s get a text before each lesson, which cut no-shows more than anything else we did.
Each student's supervised hours toward the state requirement fill in automatically when a lesson ends, and the instructor signs them off on the phone.
We look after it on a small monthly support plan. Most months that's one update and a quiet inbox.
